Leveling Kit vs Lift Kit: A Guide for Albuquerque Trucks

Leveling kit vs lift kit comes down to how much height you want. A leveling kit raises only the front of your truck so it sits level with the back. A lift kit raises the entire truck, giving you more ground clearance and room for much bigger tires. Your choice depends on your tire goals, your budget, and how you use your truck.

King Kong Custom Audio & Accessories has been building trucks in Albuquerque since 2012, with lifts from 2 inches all the way up to 18. Here's how to tell which one your truck needs.

What Is a Leveling Kit?

Most trucks leave the factory sitting lower in the front than in the back. This is called factory rake, and it's there so the rear doesn't sag when you load the bed or hook up a trailer.

A leveling kit raises the front of your truck to match the rear, usually by a couple of inches. The result is a cleaner, more aggressive stance and room for slightly larger tires.

A leveling kit is a good fit if you:

  • Want a better look without a major build

  • Want to fit slightly bigger tires

  • Use your truck mostly as a daily driver

  • Want to keep changes to ride quality minimal

What Is a Lift Kit?

A lift kit raises your whole truck, front and back. There are two main types.

Suspension Lift

A suspension lift replaces or modifies suspension components to raise the truck. It adds real ground clearance under the truck, which matters off-road, and makes room for much larger tires.

Body Lift

A body lift uses spacers to raise the body off the frame. It creates room for bigger tires and a taller look, but it doesn't add ground clearance under the axles.

A lift kit is a good fit if you:

  • Want to run big tires

  • Go off-road, on trails, or through rough terrain

  • Want maximum height and a head-turning build

What to Consider Before You Choose

Your Tires and Wheels

Your tire goals usually decide the kit. Bigger lifts open up bigger tires, but the wheels have to fit correctly too. We handle custom wheel fitment for lifted builds so everything clears without rubbing.

How You Use Your Truck

If you tow or haul heavy loads, tell us up front. Removing factory rake changes how the rear sits under load, and we'll build around how you actually use your truck.

Ride Quality and Fuel Economy

Bigger lifts and bigger tires can change how your truck rides and may lower your gas mileage. Quality components and a proper install make a big difference in how the truck drives day to day.

Lift Kit Brands We Install

We work with trusted suspension brands, including BDS Suspension, Rough Country, Superlift, Rancho, Bulletproof, Racecar Dynamics, and ProComp. We'll recommend the right brand for your truck, your goals, and your budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a leveling kit and a lift kit?

A leveling kit raises only the front of your truck to match the rear. A lift kit raises the entire truck for more height, more ground clearance, and bigger tires.

Is a leveling kit or a lift kit better?

Neither is better overall. A leveling kit is best for a cleaner stance and slightly bigger tires on a daily driver. A lift kit is best for big tires, off-road use, and maximum height.

How high can you lift a truck?

At King Kong Custom, we install lifts from 2 inches up to 18 inches, depending on your truck and your goals.

Will a lift kit void my truck's warranty?

Aftermarket parts don't automatically void your whole warranty. Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer generally has to show that the part caused the problem before denying a claim. A professional install helps protect you.

Can you install new wheels and tires with my lift?

Yes. We handle wheel and tire fitment for lifted, leveled, and lowered builds.
